broadbandThe internet was first introduced in the 1980’s and steadily grew in its popularity in the 1990’s. Before broadband, the internet world was a slow and frustrating place to enter. The telephone line would be engaged while it took 10 minutes to load up the Google homepage, but thanks to the launch of a high speed connection called broadband, the internet is now the planets favourite past time. With millions of people wanting to do everything quicker and with more ease, from ordering your Tesco shopping online to joining Blockbusters to save the 5 minute walk on a Saturday night, everyone wants things done quickly. It was inevitable and necessary to produce a more convenient and faster way to access the internet.

When the internet first began, people connected to the internet with their telephone wires using a system called ‘dial-up’. The standard dial-up runs at tortoise-esque speeds and hampers your ability to download videos, music and films. In addition to the painfully slow connection, the dial-up system is also inconvenient as it ties up the telephone line. However, as popularity soared in the early 90’s a solution by the name of broadband was brought into play. Broadband allows people fast internet access using data transmission through cable television lines or via ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) and has breathed new life into to internet. Broadband has gone from strength to strength providing connection speeds up to 4 times faster than standard dial-up minus the disruption to the telephone line.
